Every week, Incubator Sports showcases a great sporting product that’s giving the professional athletes an edge; this week we look at a pair of boots that provide a great combination of grip and speed.

The rugby and football seasons are in full force, and those looking to pick up a new pair of boots may want to consider the Adidas Adizero F50s.

Adidas have always had their foot in the door with regards to quality-made boots, such as the Copa Mundials, which are still cult favourites; but for the last couple of years, Adidas made serious strides in developing boots prioritised for speed.

Their Adizero F50 range is a perfect example of a light-weight and durable boot, which have been thrust into the limelight by football star Lionel Messi. The Argentina and Barcelona star’s style perfectly embodies what the boots are made for: control and speed.

Messi was even involved in the design of the boot, so you know they had a close eye on the details.

A featherweight “Hybridtouch” (as Adidas is calling it) synthetic leather upper has a soft touch, and features a 3D grip texture for more ball contact.

The frame around the base of the foot is also a highly-durable mesh, which allows for that snug-fit you want, while also being breathable and keeping the weight of plastics and/or leather down.

The boots also host a resistant kicking area and a new Traxion 2.0 stud configuration, which helps with stability and grip. The stud layout is designed to help with take-offs, giving you the optimum grip for accelerating from a standing start, as well as changing angles – perfect for a player who needs that off-the-mark speed, whether it be in rugby or football.

The Adidas Adizero F50 boots are available from Sportsman’s Warehouse for R2,300.

There is also the F30 model, which just features a different stud moulding, for R1,300.
